Great Start to Kindergarten Pilot Program 2021

C&K has been successful in securing funding from the Queensland Department of Education for the Great Start to Kindergarten Pilot Program. This pilot provides funding for community kindergartens selected by the Department to offer no-cost or low-cost three-year-old programs in terms 3 and 4 in 2021.

Attending kindergarten, pre-kindy, or playgroup as a three-year-old can lay the foundation for ensuring success in a range of outcomes, including literacy, numeracy, and social and emotional wellbeing. International evidence overwhelmingly finds that attendance for more than one year at a high-quality kindergarten has greater potential to lift a child's learning outcomes.

C&K will deliver four innovative programs to support children’s successful transition to a high-quality kindergarten program:

  1. Pre-kindy in a kindergarten program
  2. Pre-kindy
  3. Playgroup for three-year-olds
  4. Playgroup for three-year-olds and pre-kindy

To be eligible for the funding, children need to have turned three by 30 June 2021.

Pre-kindy in a kindergarten program

Three-year-old children will attend an existing high-quality community kindergarten program alongside four-year-old children during terms 3 and 4 of 2021. The program will provide valuable learning opportunities that extend beyond the home - including building relationships with teachers, making new friends, enjoying new learning experiences, and cooperating with others.

Children will be guided in age-appropriate learning as they play and learn alongside four-year-olds in a nurturing environment.

The below C&K centres will offer this program in terms 3 and 4 for 2021:

Children will play and learn in a kindergarten environment specifically for three-year-olds, led by a qualified kindergarten teacher. Through indoor and outdoor play spaces, teachers will engage children with opportunities to explore, experiment, develop friendships, and express their creativity, while nurturing a lifelong love of learning!

After attending the pre-kindy program, children will be supported to transition into the four-year-old kindergarten program in 2022.

The below C&K centres will offer this program in terms 3 and 4 for 2021:

Playgroup for three-year-olds

C&K playgroups are safe and engaging spaces for children and their families where everyone belongs. Parents and caregivers attend the playgroup with their child, and form an important part of the program, as they are supported to play an active role in their child’s learning.

The playgroup program enables social connection, access to play-based learning experiences, and pathways to community support. In a welcoming and understanding space, the focus is on family with an emphasis on the learning and developmental needs of children and supporting parents and carergivers to assist their child’s learning.

After attending playgroup at C&K, three-year-old children will be supported in their transition to the kindergarten program in 2022.

Younger children are welcome to attend with their older sibling.

Playgroup for three-year-olds and Pre-kindy

In this combined program, children will attend playgroup with a parent or caregiver for term 3, where they will have opportunities for social connection, play-based learning experiences, and pathways to community support. Families will be provided with opportunities to connect with other parents and caregivers. After the term of playgroup, children will be supported to transition to the pre-kindy program in term 4.
