Welcome

Welcome to C&K Leichhardt Community Kindergarten, we are nestled in well established gardens, helping us develop a caring and respectful attitude with children towards nature. The staff at the service have more than 40 years' experience educating children. Leichhardt Kindergarten is a stand alone community kindergarten and we have lots of parking. Our Director,  Lee McCarthy and fellow educator Carissa Huff would love to talk to you about our wonderful centre and how early learning can benefit your child. Please contact us to make an appointment to tour the centre.

Great Start to Kindergarten Pilot Program 2021

C&K has been successful in securing funding from the Queensland Department of Education for the Great Start to Kindergarten Pilot Program. This pilot provides funding for community kindergartens selected by the Department to offer no-cost or low-cost three-year-old programs in terms 3 and 4 in 2021.

To be eligible for the funding, children need to have turned three by 30 June 2021.

C&K Leichhardt Community Kindergarten is offering no-cost Pre-kindy program for three-year-olds in terms 3 and 4, 2021.

Please contact the National Translating and Interpreting Service to support families with enrolments, inclusion, and medical needs forms. This service provides clarity to help remove language barriers that impact the child's needs.

Pre-kindy

Children will play and learn in a kindergarten environment specifically for three-year-olds, led by a qualified kindergarten teacher. Through indoor and outdoor play spaces, teachers will engage children with opportunities to explore, experiment, develop friendships, and express their creativity, while nurturing a lifelong love of learning!

After attending the pre-kindy program, children will be supported to transition into the four-year-old kindergarten program in 2022.

Pre-kindy operating hours:

  • Thursday and Friday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm

Child-Led Learning

No two days are the same at C&K Leichhardt. Our teaching team tailors each day’s learning, taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious and natural environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and we allocate plenty of time for outdoor play and discovery.

Community Spirit

Community spirit is important to us at C&K Leichhardt. We foster strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us and taking the children on excursions out into the local community.

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children may be able to attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

Our curriculum approach, Listening and Learning Together, aligns with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

It continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).

How does C&K decide fees?

As a not-for-profit organisation, C&K reinvests any surplus back into our services and programs to better achieve outcomes for all children and communities.

We aim to keep fees affordable for families and has developed a fee system to maximise family access to available subsidies. Read more about C&K's fee policies.
