Great Start to Kindergarten Pre-kindy Program 2023

C&K has partnered with the Queensland Department of Education for the Great Start to Kindergarten Program. This pre-kindy program provides funding for selected community kindergartens to offer three-year-old children the same subsidy as four-year-old children in terms 3 and 4, 2023.     

Three-year-old children who are subject to statutory and/or involuntary orders, or are from a refugee and/or asylum seeker family are eligible to attend kindergarten for free in C&K community kindergartens*. Attending kindergarten as a three-year-old can lay the foundation for ensuring success in a range of outcomes, including literacy, numeracy, and social and emotional wellbeing. International evidence overwhelmingly finds that attendance for more than one year at a high-quality kindergarten has greater potential to lift a child's learning outcomes.  

In the Great Start to Kindergarten Program, three-year-old children can attend one of the selected community kindergartens alongside four-year-old children during terms 3 and 4 of 2023. The program provides valuable learning opportunities that extend beyond the home - including building relationships with teachers, making new friends, enjoying new learning experiences, and growing their confidence.  Children are guided in age-appropriate learning as they play and learn alongside four-year-olds in a safe and nurturing environment.

* Kindergartens that run extended hours programs with Child Care Subsidy programs are not eligible for this program.
