Welcome

Welcome to C&K Sunset Community Kindergarten.

We are a single unit kindergarten located on the grounds of Sunset State School.  The centre offers a 5 day fortnight kindergarten program, with maximum of 22 children in each group.

Being located on the Sunset State School grounds provides us with many opportunities to experience school life through a comprehensive Transition Program.  We benefit from visits to the prep rooms and the prep playground, along with inclusion in school events such as NAIDOC celebrations, Under 8’s Day and Open Day activities.

Sunset State School also provides a sponsorship program covering the cost of kindergarten to those children who will be attending the School in prep of the following year.

The Director/Teacher is a University trained teacher, holding full registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).  The Assistants are diploma trained or studying towards their diploma.  All staff hold a current Senior First Aid, CPR, Blue Card, Asthma and Anaphylaxis.

At C&K Sunset Community Kindergarten we value the uniqueness and individuality of each child and family.  We run an inside/ outside play based program guided by C&K’s Building Waterfalls curriculum framework.

Free Kindy for 2022 - Enrol Now

C&K Sunset Community Kindergarten has secured additional funding from the Queensland Department of Education to offer Free Kindy for 2022. The funding allows families of eligible-aged children to attend C&K Sunset Community Kindergarten for 15 hours per week at no cost. Your child must turn four-years-old by 30 June 2022 to be eligible for the funding. Please contact us today for more information or enrol now to secure your child's place.

Child-Led Learning 

No two days are the same at C&K Sunset. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.

Community Spirit 

Community spirit is important to us at C&K Sunset. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us.

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children may be able to attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities. 

Our curriculum approach, Listening and Learning Together, aligns with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).

What if I want my 3 year old to go to kindergarten?

If there are spaces, we are happy to have three year olds at kindy, who can come for 2 years. Please contact us to discuss your child and your family’s situation.

Can I get the concession rate?

The concession is funded by the Queensland and Australian governments. You can get the concession if your child is of eligible age and you:

  • have a valid health care card, or
  • have a valid pensioner concession card, or
  • hold a veteran’s affairs gold/white card, or
  • identify as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or South Sea Islander, or
  • have had a multiple birth (three children or more) and all children attend kindy.

How does C&K decide fees?

As a not-for-profit organisation, C&K reinvests any surplus back into our services and programs to better achieve outcomes for all children and communities.
