Kindergarten program details
At Weipa Kindergarten and Preschool to Weipa Community Kindergarten, we operate two Kindergarten groups. Each group has a maximum of 22 children and is led by an experienced and qualified early childhood teacher. We operate during QLD school terms and are closed for school holidays and public holidays.
- Yellow Group: Monday and Tuesdays, 7:45am to 3:30pm
- Blue Group: Thursday and Fridays, 7:45am to 3:30pm
Free Pre-kindy Program
Weipa Kindergarten and Preschool to Weipa Community Kindergarten offers a subsidised pre-kindy program for three-year-olds in terms 3 and 4, 2024. To be eligible for this program, children need to have turned three by 30 June 2024.
Your three-year-old child can attend Weipa kindy's high-quality community kindergarten program alongside four-year-olds. Attending kindergarten provides learning opportunities for your child in a safe and nurturing environment, including building relationships with teachers and growing their confidence and social skills to engage with other children.

Located on the beautiful west coast of Cape York Peninsula in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Weipa is a vibrant, community focused remote town. At Weipa Community Kindergarten, we embrace a holistic approach to early childhood education. We view children as capable and curious, and our learning environment fosters their natural interests through play-based experiences. Children engage in a variety of activities from creative arts, imaginative play and building projects to gardening, cooking and reading. Our approach nurtures their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in a supportive, inclusive space.
Our beautiful outdoor areas, with bike tracks, art cottage, climbing equipment, sensory spaces and the nearby ocean encourage exploration and connection to nature. Strong partnerships with families and the community ensures that every child feels a sense of belonging.
At Weipa Community Kindergarten, we cultivate an environment where children thrive, supported by caring, qualified and experienced educators and enriched by their surroundings.
C&K Affiliated Centre
As an affiliated centre of C&K, Weipa Kindergarten and Preschool to Weipa Community Kindergarten receives support from C&K as the Central Governing Body but operates as an independent incorporated association, managed by a volunteer management committee. Centres affiliated with C&K receive comprehensive support in governance including managing kindergarten and inclusion funding, training for committees and educators, advice, and support regarding inclusion, use of the C&K brand, curriculum approach and resource materials.
Child-Led Learning
We place each child at the centre of their learning journey. Our educators observe and respond to children's ideas, encouraging critical thinking, independence, creativity and problem-solving skills as children take an active role in shaping their own learning. The spacious environment at our Kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.
Community Spirit
Community spirit is important to us at Weipa Kindergarten and Preschool to Weipa Community Kindergarten. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent input and involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten and programming decisions. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us.
