Operating Hours and Groups

At Harty Street Community Kindergarten we offer a number of models of kindergarten education for families to choose from. Our programs are offered for children aged 3 to 5 and a half years and operate during QLD school terms.

5 Day Fortnight (Short-day Kindergarten)

  • Thursday, Friday and alternate Wednesdays, 8:45am to 2:45pm

2 Days per Week (Long-day Kindergarten)

  • Group 1: Monday and Tuesday, 8:30am to 4:00pm
  • Group 2: Thursday and Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm

2 Days per Week with Extended Hours (Extended-day Kindergarten)

  • Monday and Tuesday, 8:00am to 6:00pm (includes after kindy care program from 3:30pm - 6:00pm)

Pre-Kindy Program

  • Wednesdays, 8:45am to 2:45pm

Harty Street is a community kindergarten located in Coorparoo. Our warm, caring and degree-qualified early childhood educators are dedicated to ensuring your child enjoys and benefits from their kindergarten year. At Harty Street your child will be nurtured, protected and will grow into a lifelong learner. Our program is play-based preparing 3 to 5 and a half year olds for their prep year and beyond. 

Environment

Our kindergarten is a hidden gem! Tucked away on 2000sqm of land is a beautiful, natural, expansive playgroup where children can enjoy being children. This adventure playground is truly magical and plays a key role in our play-based curriculum allowing exploration, physical and social development. Our varied activities help children to develop emotionally, physically and academically.

Many of our teachers have invested numerous years in Harty Street and its community, including some who have sent their own children for their kindy year here.

Applications for enrolment at Harty Street Community Kindergarten are open from birth. Harty Street is very popular, so with only 108 positions available each year, we advise you to complete our enrolment waitlist form as soon as possible.

Placement offers commence in the year prior to attending, usually in May.

What year should my child attend kindy?

This table shows the year the Queensland government recommends your child attends kindergarten. Children aged 4 years old by June 30 in the year they attend kindy are also called ‘Eligible age’ or ‘Target age’.

All our kindergartens deliver C&K Quality Kindergarten Program. Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children who are turning 4 by June 30 in the year before they attend school. C&K’s kindy programs are government-approved and led by experienced and university qualified teachers. Our program supports children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, resilience and real-world knowledge and skills.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, so we approach learning as a collaborative relationship between teachers, eaducators, children and families. At C&K we believe children are powerful learners, active citizens, thinkers and theorisers - this is at the heart of our early childhood curriculum. We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations and nurture healthy minds and bodies. Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

C&K's Kindergartens with Extended Hours offer continued learning after the core program ends for the day. The extended hours program is led by a diploma-qualified educator and supported by an assistant educator. There is a half-hour overlap between the core kindergarten program lead educator and the extended program lead educator each day. Educators will share highlights and continuing plans for the day.

Your child’s learning journey is shared with you via  conversations with your child’s educators, through written documentation and through StoryPark (an app and website).
