Overview

This course is designed to strengthen leadership capability and address the gaps between everyday practice, regulatory requirement, and current training in the ECEC sector.

There are five micro-credential badges in this program, each focused on a specific skill or knowledge area. They can be completed individually, or stacked together for additional recognition in Leading for Regulation and Compliance in Early Childhood Education and Care (Advanced).

The five micro-credential badges are:

  1. Leading a risk-aware culture in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings
  2. Leading a child safe culture
  3. Leading to strengthen governance in ECEC settings
  4. Leading for meaningful adult-child interactions in ECEC settings
  5. Leading for high quality supervision and learning in early childhood education and care settings

Each Micro-credential is delivered online and should take approximately 3 hours of learning (1-2 hours of online learning and 1-2- hours of action learning and reflection).

This project is proudly sponsored by the Queensland Department of Trade, Employment and Training. It aligns with the Queensland Government’s Workforce Strategy 2022-2032, Good People, Good Jobs, which focus on building a strong, diverse workforce ready for current and future opportunities.

This project was led by The Creche and Kindergarten Association in consultation with Catholic Early EdCare, G8 Education, Good Start Early Learning, Lady Gowrie QLD, Lutheran Education Queensland.

Online.

Formal Entry Requirements

460 places have been funded under the Micro-credentialing Program through the State of Queensland represented by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training. It is offered at no cost to employees of organisations operating under one of the identified stakeholder groups named in the Project Service Agreement.

Organisational enrolment is currently capped (please see your employer for details).

  • Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC)
  • The Gowrie Inc (Lady Gowrie)

Currently this program is closed to other candidates.

To participate you must be:

The following individuals are NOT eligible Participants:

  • Secondary school students;
  • Employees of government departments and government agencies, not including local councils, unless approved by the Department prior to commencement;
  • Apprentices and Trainees as defined in the Further Education and Training Act 2014

Additional requirements for the Leadership Pathway

Prerequisite qualification required. Students must hold:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent; or
  • Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent

Foundation Pathway (opens 2026)

There are no additional requirements for the foundation pathway.

Estimated time: 15 hours in total for all 5 micro-credentials

  • Each individual micro-credential badge will take approximately 3 – 4 hours of learning and assessment (1-2 hours of online learning and assessment; 1-2 hours of action learning)

Leading a Risk-Aware Culture

Learning Outcomes:

  • Investigate and explore the legislation, the NQF and NQS, regulations and principles about assessing and managing risk in early childhood education and care settings
  • Reflect on your own leadership and develop strategies that support you to lead a Risk-Aware Culture including strategies for leading ‘risk-based conversations’
  • Use leadership principles to promote ‘risk-based conversation’ at work and reflect on the outcome.

  • Develop a clear understanding of the Child Safe Organisation Act 2024 and its implications for the Early Childhood Education and Care Sector in Queensland.

  • Analyse and evaluate effective strategies for leading cultural change towards a stronger child safe environment
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities in supporting your team to uphold and improve child safety standards across the organisation.

  • Use leadership principles to build a culture of regulatory compliance and innovation.

  • Use leadership principles to design a process or resource that support your team to promote safe and effective learning environments for young children.
