Child Safety at C&K

At C&K, child safety is our highest priority – extending across governance, leadership, employees, volunteers, and families.

Child Safety in Early Learning

At C&K, we are committed to creating and maintaining safe, supportive and respectful early learning environments where every child feels valued and protected. Our child protection policies follow Queensland’s legal and ethical frameworks and ensure all staff are trained to identify, report and prevent harm or abuse. Whether your child attends a C&K kindergarten or early childhood centre, you can trust that their wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do.

Why Child Safety Matters at C&K

Every child has the right to feel safe, be respected, and have their wellbeing protected. At C&K, we take this responsibility seriously. Our culture promotes inclusion, trust, and child empowerment. We listen to children and encourage them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

Our Commitment to Child Safety at C&K

Child protection and safeguarding is a shared responsibility at C&K – across leadership, governance, employees, volunteers and families.

As a signatory to the Queensland Statement of Shared Commitment, C&K recognises that every interaction counts in creating an environment where children feel safe, secure and self-confident.

All employees at C&K embrace this safeguarding culture and enforce our zero tolerance for any abusive or inappropriate actions. They do this by creating inclusive, culturally safe, and nurturing environments where children are empowered to thrive through quality relationships and voice their perspectives with confidence, knowing that they will be heard and taken seriously.

Our recruitment processes reflect these child-safe commitments and are designed to identify the most suitable and qualified persons to work with children and facilitate a child-safe environment.

Child Safety Standards at C&K

Our educators’ dedication to children’s safety and wellbeing every day exemplifies the high standards that should be the norm across the sector. We are strongly committed to child safety and protection and will always take action to protect children.

  • We enforce a zero tolerance for any abusive or inappropriate actions, with a thorough mandatory reporting process.
  • We have a suite of policies and procedures to guide staff, along with resources and a targeted induction program to embed child safe practices for all staff.
  • Centre employees are not permitted to use personal devices when working with children unless in an emergency.
  • We cultivate and encourage a strong reporting culture with follow up support to respond quickly to concerns.
  • We take parent feedback seriously and respond to parent concerns promptly.
  • We listen to children and take them seriously. We carefully observe the responses and reactions of infants and toddlers and speak with families if we have concerns.
  • Our recruitment and staff performance processes are robust, reinforcing child safety at all steps in attracting and supporting the best people.
  • We organise staff rosters so that at least two staff members are rostered at all times. We have support provided by our regional teams and centre leadership team and often staff above and beyond minimum ratio requirements.
  • We regularly review our policies and procedures and are currently revising our child safety approach, implementing regulatory and legislative changes.

Mandatory Reporting and Legal Obligations

Our staff are mandatory reporters under Queensland law. This means they are legally required to report any suspicion of harm, abuse or neglect. We ensure staff understand their responsibilities and act swiftly in the best interests of the child.

How We Support Families and Educators

We work in partnership with families to keep children safe. Through open communication, information sharing and ongoing support, we help parents feel informed and empowered. Our educators receive regular training and are supported by a dedicated child protection team.

Report a Child Safety Concern

If you have a concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing, we encourage you to speak with your centre director or contact our child protection team. All reports are treated seriously and handled with confidentiality.
