Alma St Pre-Prep Incorporated

About our centre

Alma Street Pre-Prep is a community based, non-profit educational centre established in Gympie for over 0 years.

The centre offers positions for pre-prep (3½-4 ½ years olds) in a child centred, play based environment.

The centre is staffed by fully qualified, very experienced teachers and assistants, and offers stable groups for 5 day a fortnight sessions.

Alma Street Pre-Prep is affiliated with C&K and implements the living and learning curriculum “Building Waterfalls” developed by C&K. This Curriculum is a partnership between children, parents, educators and the community.

The Pre-Prep program is more than just physical care of children. The equipment and program of this centre are planned to help children develop as individuals, bringing out their talents and developing skills, attitudes and knowledge - at their own pace - and in all areas of their development.

  • The objectives of this centre are to enable children to:
  • Discover they are people of worth, who can do many things for themselves,
  • Realise that what they do affects others, and to learn ways of working and playing happily with others,
  • Begin to assume responsibility for their own behaviour and develop self-control, and be helped to accept the consequences of their decisions according to their ability at a particular stage of development,
  • Learn about the world around them eg. earth, sky, plants, animals and people.

Learn:

  • To express their ideas in art, drama, music and
  • language,
  • To become more skilful with their own body,
  • To explore new interests and ideas,
  • To reason
  • and solve problems, and
  • to think creatively, through supervised play and with others their own age, and in play activities with selected equipment.

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children may be able to attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

Our curriculum approach, Listening and Learning Together, aligns with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

It continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).

New Playground

In 2018, Alma Street Pre-Prep was lucky enough to obtain a small assistance grant for early years services and this was spent in part on the installation of a playground tree. The staff travelled to Kilkivan to choose a tree from a paddock. The tree was then felled, de-barked, trimmed, sanded and oiled until it was smooth with no sharp lumps or bumps to hurt the children. It was then transported to Alma Street and put in place by a crane. In preparation, we had cleared an ear of the playground which was previously under utilised. See the picture below!

Alma St's daily fees are:
