Kindergarten program details

At C&K Corbett Street Community Kindergarten, our Extended Hours Kindergarten program offers a 5 days a fortnight program or a 5 days a week program.  You can choose either:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and alternate Wednesdays, 8:00am to 6:00pm
  • Thursday, Friday, and alternate Wednesdays, 8:00am to 6:00pm
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm

Holiday program

The holiday program is available from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday during the Queensland School Holidays.

About our kindy

Welcome to C&K Corbett St, where your child will feel safe, make friends and belong. C&K Corbett Street was established in 1913 and has been operating from our current centre since 1922. We have a long-held reputation for providing quality early childhood education in the local community, and many of the children attending our kindy have parents or older siblings who also attended. Our open plan indoor environment celebrates the kindy’s history through the thoughtful arrangement of beuatiful, nature inspired, quality learning resources which the children use in a variety of experiences for creative arts, dramatic play, music, project work and quiet learning and reflection. Children and their families love exploring our substantial outdoor learning environment, which provides a source of natural shade and a haven for birds and insects, as well as a multitude of learning opportunities through active play, sensory play and creative play. This outdoor environment also supports our strong focus on sustainability and the natural world, nature play, and exploring the world through Indigenous ways of learning, knowing and being. Our teachers and educators focus on nurturing your child's curiosity, building their resilience and developing their confidence - all through the joy of learning through play.

Child-led learning

No two days are the same at C&K Corbett Street. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.

Community Spirit

Community spirit is important to us at C&K Corbett Street. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often host, promote and participate in community events and love connecting with local non-profit and community groups, schools and local businesses in West End and surrounding areas.

What year should my child attend kindy?

This table shows the year the Queensland government recommends your child attends kindergarten. Children aged 4 years old by June 30 in the year they attend kindy are also called ‘Eligible age’ or ‘Target age’.

All our kindergartens deliver C&K's quality kindergarten program. Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children who are turning 4 by June 30 in the year before they attend school. C&K’s kindy programs are government-approved and led by experienced and university qualified teachers. Our program supports children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, resilience and real-world knowledge and skills.

At C&K, we know that children do not learn in isolation, so we approach learning as a collaborative relationship between teachers, educators, children and families. We believe children are powerful learners, active citizens, thinkers and theorisers - this is at the heart of our early childhood curriculum. We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations and nurture healthy minds and bodies. Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

C&K's Extended Hours Kindergartens offer continued learning after the core program ends for the day. The extended hours program is led by a diploma qualified educator and supported by an assistant educator. There is a half-hour overlap between the core kindergarten program lead educator and the extended program lead educator each day. Educators will share highlights and continuing plans for the day.

Your child’s learning journey is shared with you via  conversations with your child’s educators, through written documentation and through Storypark (an app and website).

If you are eligible for Child Care Subsidy, your out-of-pocket daily fee will be reduced by your eligible CCS rate. Depends on your Child Care Subsidy entitlements. Please email us for a quote.

Enrolment Fee*

$100

(one-off fee, non-refundable)

* A one-off, non-refundable enrolment fee of $100 is payable to confirm your place when you complete your enrolment at your centre. This fee is not subsidised and is issued to cover the administrative costs of your child's enrolment. However, the enrolment fee can be waived if you are an eligible concession care holder. Please discuss this with your centre's Director.

What subsidies are available?

C&K Corbett Street Community Kindergarten has been approved for the Australian Government's Child Care Subsidy. The amount of subsidy you can get depends on your family's circumstances, please contact Services Australia.

The Queensland Government also provides Free Kindy, which is a funding initiative that enables families with eligible-age children (turning 4 by 30 June in the year they attend kindergarten) to access 15 hours of free kindergarten per week. The subsidy is provided for 40 weeks/600 hours per calendar year. 

At this centre, Free Kindy is applied during the 4 school terms. The Free Kindy subsidy does not apply to the extended hours portion of the day or during the holiday program. Eligible families can continue to claim the CCS for these times. 

    What if I want my 3 year old to go to kindergarten?

    C&K Corbett Street educates and cares for children aged between 3 and 5 years.
