Why choose us?
If our outstanding reputation doesn't sway you, then here are a few other reasons for choosing our centre as your child's Pre-Prep program:
Familiar - Your child will belong to a class of the same 22 children with the same teacher and assistant for the entire year. This helps your child (and you) develop a real sense of belonging and bonds firm friendships.
Constant - Long standing, devoted, experienced and qualified staff (see below under 'Staffing')
Proficient - Well established kindergarten programs. The centre is already using the new national pre-prep curriculum material which C&K helped to develop.
Dedicated - Our centre strives to help children grow in all facets of development (e.g. communication, fine motor, gross motor, problem solving, conflict resolution, individuality....), and prepare your child for Prep.
Attentive - Preparing individualised portfolio's of your child's work, milestones and progress throughout the year. A great resource to take to Prep interviews but more importantly, the portfolio provides long-lasting memories.
Supportive - Parent interest and involvement is encouraged and we are happy to incorporate your experience into our program (if you are keen). We also embrace any interest or event (e.g. new family member, holiday, show), your child may wish to share with the group.
Welcoming - Open door policy. The door is always open for you to discuss any issues relating to your child or the centre and you will find our staff inviting, welcoming and willing to assist.
Unobliging - If you have limited time, our centre does not require you to participate in any time helping at the centre or in any fundraising (no fundraising required at all).
Inexpensive - Works out to be only $23/day (minus childcare rebate) and worth every cent.
At Geebung C&K we pride ourselves in exceeding any standard requirements, whether this be with regard to staff/ child ratio, curriculum, land size or resources. We are however, always looking to improve and welcome your comments and suggestions at any time.
The centre comprises of two units; each with a fully qualified teacher and a qualified assistant. Our three teachers, Lorraine Douglas (Director of the Centre), Leah Murray and Rebecca Sutherland have dedicated years teaching at Geebung C&K. They provide a warm, positive and encouraging learning environment. Lorraine, Leah and Rebecca are responsible for all details pertaining to the daily curriculum in their unit. All teachers hold:
- University qualifications in Early Childhood Education
- Current registration with the Qld. College of Teachers
- Current First Aid certificates
- Blue cards
The centre actively supports the ongoing professional development of all staff members through their attendance at courses, seminars, workshops and conferences.
Kindergarten and Preschool Education
The preschool years are the most important ones for a child’s later development. For many children, pre-prep may be the first experience of being away from parents, of mixing in numbers with other children and of developing their own personalities. There are many skills, attitudes and concepts that the pre-prep experience provides. The pre-prep year is essentially one of familiarization and socialization.
The pre-prep year encourages your child to explore the environment, to experiment with new experiences and equipment, to learn new songs and rhymes, dance and play games, learn to cut, to do puzzles, to experience all of the art activities offered such as easel painting, finger painting, pasting, threading and stamping. Children are encouraged to explore their understanding of the world through a variety of dramatic play experiences and have a wide variety of dress-up and props to extend their ideas. Children are encouraged to make choices, to be able to follow an activity through to its conclusion and to develop concentration and listening skills. We have a large shady outdoor area where they can experience all of the fun and challenges of the outdoor play area. Your child will also make new friends and learn many of the “social” skills that are part of being in a group situation.
Our Centre follows the curriculum guidelines “Building Waterfalls” – developed by C & K and supported by Education Queensland.
8.20am to 2.30pm
Staff are available before and after these hours for parent discussions or to give information.
Throughout the year, the teachers will put together a portfolio of your child's work. This will include:
- pictures of your child playing or participating in activities;
- drawings your child has completed;
- milestones your child has reached (e.g. writing their own name) and
- many more important memories of your child's time at kindergarten.
