C&K Geebung Kindergarten & Preschool

Welcome

Geebung C&K is a community based, not for profit Kindy which has been providing quality early childhood education since 1966. We are located next to Bowden Park in Geebung.

We have a committed, highly qualified and dedicated team of staff. All of our staff are passionate about early childhood education and this is evident in our high quality program.

Children share the Kindy year with the same 22 children, teacher and educator. This consistency allows the children to feel a sense of belonging and connection with their peers and staff.

Our rich and stimulating learning environment supports children to explore and discover through play. Our play based programs cater to the individual child and are designed around intentional and incidental learning experiences.
Our programming follows the Early Years Learning Framework (National Curriculum) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.

The National Quality Framework (NQF) provides a national approach to regulation, assessment and quality improvement for early childhood education and care across Australia. We are very proud that Geebung Kindy is rated at ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Standard.

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children may be able to attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

Our curriculum approach, Listening and Learning Together, aligns with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

It continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).

BRIEF HISTORY
Eight women started our centre originally as a child-minding centre on 24 March 1949. They moved from the Geebung Memorial Hall into an army disposals hut on Robinson Road in 1952. This hut was then moved to Weenga Street in 1960, where a kindergarten and childcare centre was conducted. A big demand for preschool saw an end to our childcare days in 1965. A new centre was built in Maidencombe Street and was officially open on the 5th March 1966. The Association was incorporated in 1986. Today the centre is a two unit kindergarten and pre-school, providing facilities for up to 88 children.

TESTIMONIALS
"The Geebung C&K is well known and respected in the local area as a provider of quality child care and education for almost 40 years. I can personally attest to the dedication of the teaching staff and volunteers who are giving children a flying start in the lead up to primary school." - Neil Roberts MP

"C&K give children a great introduction to their future years of schooling. Geebung C&K has continued for years to give children a warm, loving learning environment." - Cr Fiona King (Councillor for Marchant Ward)

"My daughter loves going to Geebung C&K. She has made a couple of special friends that she plays with regularly and has become more confident in all areas. She enjoys the singing, dancing, craft, drawing and painting and her co-ordination and balance has also improved. She has also learnt to listen to instruction and follow directions from her wonderful teachers. " - Michele Lavery

"Being a stay at home Mum with 2 daughters and having recently moved to Brisbane, I was quite nervous at the thought of sending my eldest daughter to Kindy, particularly when we had little idea of the reputations of Kindergartens and schools. That all changed when I found the Geebung C&K. From the moment I drove past the centre I had a good feeling about it. The layout and facilities were all amazing and so well presented and after meeting Lorraine Douglas and Deborah Gaylard I knew my daughter would be in very safe hands. My daughter even became excited about going. Since attending Kindy I have seen a huge change in my daughter's confidence and independence. She can now write her name, she draws some amazing pictures of our family, she enjoys singing a variety of songs and we have both met some wonderful friends." - Susan Jefferies

"My daughter had informed me that there was no way she was going to kindy but that changed completely after her first day at Geebung C&K. Sophie loves Mrs Douglas and Mrs Gaylard, along with all the activities and opportunities the kindy provides. Many family and friends cannot believe how much Sophie has come out of her shell since attending kindy, the once shy girl has transformed into little Miss Chatterbox." - Sandra McKenzie

"Switching my daughter from daycare to Geebung C&K has been the best decision for my family. My daughter has thrived by interacting with peers her own age and being guided by the same dedicated teachers every day. The activities and events at Geebung C&K are so varied and stimulating, my daughter can't stop talking about them! Financially too, kindy has saved us so much money - one week of kindy is still cheaper than on day of daycare. The commitment and professionalism of the staff and the outstanding quality of the curriculum, learning resources and playing environment have all ensured that our daughter's Pre-Prep experience has been an overwhelmingly positive one. We could not be happier at Geebung C&K". - Christine Stein
