About our kindy
Welcome to Highfields & District Kindergarten. We are a double unit kindergarten operating four kindy groups. We cater for children 3.5 years to 5 years of age in the year before they attend Prep.
Children are at the heart of all we do at Highfields & District Kindergarten. Each child has the opportunity to learn and grow in a playful, enjoyable, energetic and engaging environment geared to their individual needs. Parents are recognised as the first and most important educators of their children. Each family is warmly welcomed into the kindergarten community and close, considerate and genuine relationships between families and staff are regarded as paramount.
Staff are passionate about early childhood education and the vital importance of learning through play to bring out the best in every child. They go above and beyond in their roles as dedicated, nurturing and enthusiastic professionals with a wealth of experience.
Our program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and aligns with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines. It is child focussed, child driven, takes into account children’s unique interests and emerging capabilities, and provides fun opportunities for developing minds to thrive. The children’s progress is self-paced and they are empowered to become life-long learners. The development of positive behaviours is also embedded to encourage each child’s expanding social skills. Our program encompasses sustainable practices to inspire children to care for our world by becoming responsible members of our community.
We embrace and value opportunities for community input and involvement and are inclusive of diverse demographics, values and culture. We acknowledge our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors (the Jarowair and Giabal people), and the significance of caring for country.
Highfields & District Kindergarten is a special place, with aesthetically pleasing learning environments both inside and outside, inspiring adventure and investigation. We are a well-established and resourced community kindergarten, offering a beautiful introduction to education and learning outside of the home.
C&K Affiliated Centre
As an affiliated centre of C&K, Highfields & District kindy receives support from C&K as the Central Governing Body but operates as an independent incorporated association, managed by a volunteer management committee. Centres affiliated with C&K receive comprehensive support in governance including managing kindergarten and inclusion funding, training for committees and educators, advice, and support regarding inclusion, use of the C&K brand, curriculum approach and resource materials.
Child-Led Learning
No two days are the same at Highfields & District Kindergarten. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.
Community Spirit
Community spirit is important to us at Highfields & District Kindergarten. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent input and involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten and programming decisions. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us.
