Operating Hours

Our operating hours are 8.10am until 2.50pm from Monday to Friday.

Welcome to Highfields & District Kindergarten.

We are a double unit Kindergarten with four groups of children. Each group attends for 30 hours over a 5 day fortnight. We cater for children 3.5 years to 5 years of age in the year before they attend prep.

Each group of Kindergarten aged children participate in a play-based educational program from the Queensland Curriculum & Assessment Authority approved curriculum: Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.  The program is conducted by our dedicated University Trained Early Childhood Teachers and their Certificate III and Diploma qualified Assistants.

You are most welcome to phone or e-mail us for more information about our centre or alternatively, please give us a call to arrange for a convenient time to look through our beautiful Kindy. Our door is always open.

Our Philosophy

Children are at the heart of all we do at Highfields & District Kindergarten.  Each child has the opportunity to learn and grow in a playful, enjoyable, energetic and engaging environment geared to their individual needs.

Parents are recognised as the first and most important educators of their children.  Each family is warmly welcomed into the kindergarten community and close, considerate and genuine relationships between families and staff are regarded as paramount.

Staff are passionate about early childhood education and the vital importance of learning through play to bring out the best in every child.  They go above and beyond in their roles as dedicated, nurturing and enthusiastic professionals with a wealth of experience.

Our program is child focussed and child driven, whilst aligning with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.  Taking into account children’s unique interests and emerging capabilities, it provides fun opportunities for developing minds to thrive.  Children’s progress is self-paced and they are empowered to become life-long learners.  The development of positive behaviours is embedded to encourage each child’s expanding social skills.

We embrace and value opportunities for community input and involvement and are inclusive of diverse demographics, values and culture.  We acknowledge our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors and the significance of caring for country.

Highfields & District Kindergarten is a special place, with aesthetically pleasing learning environments both inside and outside, inspiring adventure and investigation. We are a well-established and resourced community kindergarten,  offering a beautiful introduction to education and learning outside of the home.

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children can attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

All C&K centres feature Listening and Learning Together: The C&K Curriculum Approach. The learning outcomes in our approach align with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

Our approach continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators, through written documentation in your centre and through StoryPark (an app and website).
