About our kindy
The Hughenden Kindergarten & Early Childhood Centre is a community managed, not-for profit, small rural community centre, four hours drive west of Townsville. Our C&K affiliated kindergarten program that is offered Monday to Wednesday is guided by a university-qualified teacher and supports children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners in their last year with us before they head off to primary school the following year. Our centre staff strive to always maintain a strong connection with our children, families and wider community embracing their diverse abilities, needs and culture. We provide a warm, respectful, secure and nurturing environment by building trusting relationships with all children to enhance their sense of being, belonging and becoming, which in turns supports each child's holistic development.
For more information about Hughenden Kindergarten & Early Childhood Centre, please read our Parent Handbook.
C&K Affiliated Centre
As an affiliated centre of C&K, Hughenden kindy receives support from C&K as the Central Governing Body but operates as an independent incorporated association, managed by a volunteer management committee. Centres affiliated with C&K receive comprehensive support in governance including managing kindergarten and inclusion funding, training for committees and educators, advice, and support regarding inclusion, use of the C&K brand, curriculum approach and resource materials.
Child-Led Learning
No two days are the same at Hughenden kindy. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.
Community Spirit
Community spirit is important to us at Hughenden kindy. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent input and involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten and programming decisions. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us.
