Operating Hours and Groups

At Stones Corner Community Kindergarten, we have two models of delivery for families to choose from. Both programs ensure children receive the same number of hours of education across the school year. Each group has up to 25 children enrolled with each group being overseen by 3 educators.

  • Group A: Monday and Tuesday, 8:30am to 4:00pm
  • Group B: Thursday and Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm

We also run a Nature Day on Wednesdays from 8:30am to 2:30pm and Playgroup "Kindy Play" on the alternate Wednesday from 9:30am to 11:30am .  Nature day is an additional day on offer to current enrolled families. Events of the day will involve being outdoors the majority of the day with fortnightly community excursions to Norman Creek parklands.  For more information about Playgroup "Kindy Play" please contact us.

Welcome

Welcome to Stones Corner Kindy nestled within Hanlon Park, surrounded by nature, you will find a hub of curiosity and creativity, love and laughter. Busy little minds at work and play. Discovering and learning, independently and together. Dedicated teachers and parents are nurturing and inspiring them. We would be thrilled to have your family join us too at Stones Corner Community Kindergarten. We are a not-for-profit organisation run by the parents of the current students through an elected Management Committee. Our centre Director and educators support the management committee in providing a beautiful educational environment for the children to explore and learn within.

We promote family involvement in all areas of the Kindergarten and value our connection to the local community. Stones Corner Community Kindergarten has provided pre-schooling services to the local area for over 55 years. We are proud of our ongoing connections with past students and families, and with the local Bushcare group, schools and businesses.

We are positive your child will enjoy their time here with us and look forward to sharing time with you and your family as well. We offer an open invitation to families to play an active role in the centre and input to our programming.

About our Centre

Originally established in 1964 under the name Stones Corner- Buranda Preschool and on the other side of Norman creek in Hanlon Park, Greenslopes, the building was moved to the current location after the floods in 1974. A name change followed and it saw the now Stones Corner Community Kindergarten Incorporated become affiliated with the long established Crèche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland (C&K).

For over 50 years, the community based non-profit organisation run by a volunteer parent management committee, has continually been building strong relationships with the local community, children and their families and fostering environmental awareness through its connection with the local BCC Burnett Swamp bush care group and Brisbane City Council Creek initiative and environment strategies.

Nestled on over 1000sqm of leafy spacious land, with the added backdrop of the beautiful Norman Creek rejuvenation, you will find our long standing highly skilled educators playing alongside children in our natural playground. The kindergarten’s natural setting and added resources allows children to develop as they explore, get physical and connect with nature and friends. Our inclusive approved Kindergarten program is a play-based program designed and developed to meet government guidelines, the needs of each child and follows the C&K Listening and Learning Together curriculum to ensure children are school ready.

Our vision is to ensure each child develops a positive love of learning, care and respect for life, people and the environment.

Volunteering

The kindergarten is owned by the ‘Stones Corner Community Kindergarten Incorporated’ association, made up of members (current fee paying families and other financial members). The Kindergarten is managed by an annually elected management committee of 12 positions, which coordinate the Kindergarten’s operations together with staff work towards achieving the Kindergarten’s goals.

Volunteering is rewarding, enjoyable and a wonderful way of connecting with your community.

If you are unable to formally volunteer, there are other ways you can help.

Acknowledgement of Country

We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians, the Jagera and Turrbal people, and their sacred lands on where our Kindergarten stands. We pay our deep respects to the elders of the past, the present and the future, and acknowledge our beautiful Mother Earth as she continues to nurture all who place their footsteps upon her.

Child-Led Learning

No two days are the same at Stones Corner Kindy. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.

Community Spirit

Community spirit is important to us at Stones Corner Kindy. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent input and involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten and programming decisions. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children may be able to attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

Our curriculum approach, Listening and Learning Together, aligns with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

It continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).
