Welcome

West End Scott Street Community Kindergarten (formerly West End Sussex Street Kindergarten) has been part of the fabric of West End for over 60 years. In 2008, the Kindergarten moved to new state-of the-art premises in Scott Street, West End across the road from West End State School.

Curriculum and Staff

West End Scott Street Community Kindergarten offers a Kindergarten program based on the C&K Building waterfalls and National Early Years Learning Framework curriculum.

Director/Teacher and Educational Leader is Angela Moynihan. Angela is supported by long standing staff members - Ingrid Bierton (Teaching Assistant) and Kerrie Pattison (part time administration assistant). We also have a weekly music program run by special music teacher Cavel McIntyre.

For your child, this means…
Their thinking and problem solving skills will be developed though a variety of stimulating experiences.
Their language and listening skills will be developed through almost every experience and enhanced books, stories and songs.
Their emotional development will be fostered by the Centre’s warm and supportive environment.
Their social skills will develop as they interact with their peers, exchange ideas and learn to accommodate each other in play.
Their balance and co-ordination will be developed and practiced through many physical activities.
These developments are achieved though an open-ended and flexible program that allows children to develop at their own pace.
Each child’s learning and development is enhanced by this curriculum devised by professional staff using their specialist early childhood knowledge and is shaped by observing each individual child.

Enrolment Process

Enrolments are taken throughout the year on a first in basis. Please contact us on 3844 8089 for a waiting list form or make an appointment for a visit to our centre.

We believe that young children learn most effectively through a concrete, interactive, play based approach. Since 2007 the curriculum in our centre, as in all other C&K centres has been based on the 'Building Waterfalls' framework. From 2010 we have also adopted the national Early Years Learning framework.

The learning outcomes for children are

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  4. Children are confident and involved learners
  5. Children are effective communicators

We respect that children use many different 'languages' or other ways of expressing thinking. The role of the educators is to provide an environment which stimulates curiosity, creativity, to question and discover. We extend children's ideas and provide them with time and space for them to problem solve, experiment and test out theories.
