Philosophy

We aim to provide an open learning environment which reflects the needs, interests & experiences of individual children, their families & the surrounding community. We work in collaboration with our families & the wider community to enhance the children’s learning in a meaningful way. In a warm & caring atmosphere children experience many opportunities to explore, solve problems, develop friendships, imagine, use their creativity & extend their capabilities in language, literacy & numeracy.  We encourage independent, motivated thinkers who can make choices & learn through play.

Our curriculum guided by C&K's Building waterfalls, Early Years Learning Framework & the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines embodies our philosophy & commitment to learning through play. A play based curriculum allows children to develop their knowledge & skills of investigating, experimenting, problem solving, exploring, discovering & creating.  The expressive, creative & flexible design of our curriculum enables parents, educators & children to negotiate & implement various experiences allowing everyone to be partners in the learning journey thereby maximising a child’s early years potential.
Through our program which has a strong environmental focus we provide numerous opportunities to encourage children to:
  • find connections & a sense of belonging in their environment.
  • feel powerful, inventive & confident to shape their learning environment
  • experience nature & sensory delights
  • actively engage in wonder & curiosity using all their senses
  • have multiple opportunities for expression in their natural  environment
The educators work collaboratively with the children & their families to embed sustainability ideals, concepts & actions into everyday life.  In partnership with the elected committee we promote effective leadership & management of our service which contributes to a quality environment for children’s learning & development.  Suitable staffing arrangements enable every child’s needs to be accommodated.  We promote appropriate health & safety practices for all members of our kindergarten community & regularly review & reflect on health safety aspects of our learning environment.  We recognise & endeavour to accommodate everyone’s individuality in relation to gender, race, religion, disability & culture. We promote culturally, sensitive & inclusive practices that ensure the children’s talents & abilities are developed to the fullest.

Goals

We aim to promote a play based curriculum which allows children to develop their knowledge and skills of investigating, experimenting, problem solving, exploring, discovering and creating, and which emerges from the interactions between children and adults based upon shared interests and initiatives.

All our kindergartens deliver C&K Quality Kindergarten Program. Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children who are turning 4 by June 30 in the year before they attend school. C&K’s kindy programs are government-approved and led by experienced and university qualified teachers. Our program supports children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, resilience and real-world knowledge and skills.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, so we approach learning as a collaborative relationship between teachers, eaducators, children and families. At C&K we believe children are powerful learners, active citizens, thinkers and theorisers - this is at the heart of our early childhood curriculum. We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations and nurture healthy minds and bodies. Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).

News

Over the past 18 months, the kindergarten has been involved in many successful fundraisers, including: a pie drive, hot cross bun drive, toy catalogue sales, raffles, family photo shoots, scholastic book club, Mother's and Father's day stalls, our Xmas/welcome BBQ, tea towel and plate memorabilia and our Bunnings BBQ at West Ipswich. Special thanks must go to all families and community who supported these fundraisers, and to those who supported the kindy through working bees, mowing and gardening, volunteering during the morning sessions and other activities.

It was through these fundraising missions and all centre based activities that the Kindergarten's strong sense of community shone through, as each family found a way to contribute and be involved. This eager involvement aids in enhancing the educational program for all our children. Money from fundraising enabled the purchase of new resources and other educational items including our new swing set, mud kitchen and tepees, shelving, giant books and S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering and maths) equipment just to name a few.

Last years voluntary Management Committee were instrumental in some major renovations and upgrades to the building and playground.

The very high standards of early childhood education developed at this centre are a reflection not only of the outstanding personal characteristics of each staff member, but of a very close liasion and good working relationships between the Management Committee and staff.

Kindergarten Fees

The Queensland Government provides funding to make kindy free for families with eligible-age children (children turning 4 years old by 30 June in the year they attend kindy). The funding is provided directly to your centre, and if eligible, you will not pay any daily fee.

Free kindy is only available for one kindergarten group, so you may have to pay fees if your child is enrolled in two groups. For example:

  • If your child is enrolled in both kindergarten groups at one kindy.
  • If your child is enrolled in two different kindergartens. You must nominate which kindergarten will receive the funding when you enrol.
  • If your child is enrolled in a kindergarten and a childcare centre, you will only receive free kindy at the kindy and not at the childcare centre.

What if I want my 3 year old to go to kindergarten?*

Priority is given to eligible-age children but if there are places available, we are happy to have 3 year old children at kindy and attend for two years.  The subsidies do not apply for 3 year old children, and the daily fee (non-eligible) will apply. Please contact us on 07 3288 8713 for more information on fees for 3 year olds and to discuss your child and your family’s situation.

I have more questions. Who can I talk to?

You can find more information on our Kindergarten Fees page or you can download our Fact Sheet.

Please contact us on 07 3288 8713 if you have any other questions.
