Welcome
Welcome to Mareeba Community Kindergarten. We are fortunate to have two wonderful centres located at two separate locations. Our centre at Stewart Street has been successfully operating since 1969 and with the support of the community, staff and parents, an additional centre was opened in 2013 at Sutherland Street on the Mareeba State Primary School site.
The Sutherland Street Centre adopts Listening and Learning Together: The C&K Curriculum Approach. The learning outcomes in our approach align with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).
As we are on the Mareeba State Primary School site, we have the opportunity to participate and enjoy activities within the school such as sports days, NAIDOC week and Under 8's Day celebrations.
Philosophy
It is very important that children grow in a warm friendly community where each child is able to develop at their own rate and where opportunities are created in a free, flexible and natural learning environment. In order to achieve this, we provide secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships, through regular communication with each child and their families where we respect each family’s cultural diversity. We are committed to equity for all children and believe that each child can succeed and achieve in learning through play and a balance of intentional teaching. Children will be able to interact with other children and adults and will learn through exploration, discovery and play.
We believe that it is important for each child to become an enthusiastic learner. This means encouraging children to become active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think and express their own thoughts. Our goal is to help children to become independent, self-confident and inquisitive learners. We’re developing good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves and hopefully a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
Mareeba Community Kindergarten acknowledges and pays our respects to the traditional custodians of the land, the Koko-Muluridji People on whose land our C&K Kindergarten is placed. We acknowledge and pay our respects to all Elders past, present and emerging.
