Welcome
Welcome to C&K Durack Community Kindergarten. We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians of the land on which our Kindergarten is placed, the Jagera and Yuggera people; this is reflected in our daily practices and program. So “wunya!”, welcome in the Yugara language of the Jagera and Yuggera people.
We value and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our Kindergarten children and families. Educators work in partnership with families and community organisations to ensure our play and learning spaces, resources and program are culturally representative. All educators are experienced in supporting children with different home languages.
Educators build relationships with each child and understand their uniqueness. Our program and routines are responsive to both the needs of each child as well as the wider group. Children are encouraged to drive their own play and learning. We ensure long periods of uninterrupted play, allowing children to:
- interact with each other and develop shared play experiences;
- explore and investigate;
- develop learning dispositions such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity and imagination.
Our Kindergarten, opened in 2012, benefits from a contemporary design. It has open indoor and outdoor play spaces, including a long, shady verandah. This allows children to move freely throughout the Service and provides lots of flexibility to our play and learning program.
We have created an inviting, shady environment that encourages children to connect with the natural world including a water pump and digging patch, sand pit, natives butterfly garden and our sustainable vegetable patch. Natural materials are used throughout Kindergarten wherever possible.
Our Kindergarten is located on the grounds of Durack State School. We have a strong working partnership with the school and enjoy access to the school playground, oval and natural spaces, as well as the library. Together we ensure a smooth transition from Kindergarten to Prep.
Child-Led Learning
No two days are the same at C&K Durack. Our teaching team tailors each day’s learning, taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious and natural environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and we allocate plenty of time for outdoor play and discovery.
Community Spirit
Community spirit is important to us at C&K Durack. We foster strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us and taking the children on excursions out into the local community.
