Welcome

The centre is a small rural setting where children are extended to meet their unique learning needs.

In addition, we are a proud member of the local community with our kindergarten supporting the local community for over fifty years, building a love of learning with generations of families as well as embracing our new families.

Embracing all families' cultures and heritage is something we are passionate about at C&K Oakey. We acknowledge the Jarowair peoples as traditional custodians of our land. At C&K Oakey we value and respect our Nation’s first peoples culture embedding Indigenous and Torres Strait islander practices within our program and throughout our service. Our service values, our natural environments this learning is embedded throughout our service providing children with interactions in our natural learning environments. Children experience learning through indoor and outdoor programs flexible to children’s interests, learning and developmental needs. We care for chickens, worms, fish and gain a deep understanding of the many wildlife species we have visiting. Children also have the opportunity to encounter frogs, lizards, galahs and lorikeets which visit our kindy space. C&K Oakey are proud to be in partnership with Landcare Australia and have been attending bush kindy for the past few years. Our educators are trained in nature pedagogy and through this each child experiences hands on learning in the open outdoors. During our nature walks and exploration of our bush site children engineer tepees, learn about nature, spot many different wildlife friends inclusive of kangaroos, cockatoos, pelicans and even spotting koala’s.

Our educators believe children gain a deep understanding and connectedness to country gaining knowledge of our native fauna and flora species in our bush kindy space, whilst embracing the opportunity to be adventurous in their play, assessing risks and contributing to their own and others health, safety and wellbeing in the environment. Our educators and C&K’s curriculum approach value the rich learning and developmental outcomes natural environments provide children.

Our kindy participates in the ELSA STEM pilot for the second year running, where children experience Science, Technology, English and Mathematics on apps, and this is then transferred into the classroom through their play. Through ELSA children are developing STEM concepts such as inquirers, investigators and engineers. Research around early years STEM learning suggests children in the early years are already using these concepts and introducing them in the kindergarten context sets them up for future learning.

Learning through play is what C&K is passionate about, all our educators value the role of play and benefits this has on children’s learning and development. C&K’s emphasis on play-based learning and success in creating confident, resilient and capable children has been evident for over a century. At C&K Oakey, we value our children’s voice whilst embracing each family and child working closely to ensure the best for your child during their time with us at C&K Oakey.

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children can attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

All C&K centres feature Listening and Learning Together: The C&K Curriculum Approach. The learning outcomes in our approach align with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

Our approach continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators, through written documentation in your centre and through StoryPark (an app and website).
