Welcome

Welcome to Sherwood Community Kindergarten. Established in 1958, Sherwood Community Kindergarten has been providing high quality early education for more than 60 years.

At Sherwood Community Kindergarten we are passionate about educating and caring for our pre-prep aged children through play that encourages, supports and challenges children with fun, friendship and learning. All within an environment where each child feels valued, safe and supported.

We are lucky to be located in a lovely street next to Hives Park, Sherwood. Our kindergarten has been designed to provide generous spaces for children to play, inside and outside, in our large natural play area.

Sherwood Kindergarten is a not-for-profit community kindergarten and is guided by a management committee made up of family volunteers. Families make our kindergarten special and we always encourage families to be involved in our Kindy program on a daily basis.

We are positive your child will enjoy their time here with us and look forward to sharing time with you and your family as well. We offer an open invitation to families to play an active role in the centre and input to our programming.

Please contact us for more information.

Child-Led Learning

No two days are the same at Sherwood Kindy. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.

Community Spirit

Community spirit is important to us at Sherwood Kindy. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent input and involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten and programming decisions. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us

Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children in the year before they attend school. When places are available, 3-year old children may be able to attend.

C&K's kindergarten programs are guided by university-qualified teachers and support children to be curious, capable, and collaborative learners.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, for us learning is partnership between teachers, children, parents, and communities.

Our curriculum approach, Listening and Learning Together, aligns with both The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).

It continues the longstanding traditions and philosophical commitments of C&K to our children, families and communities. Read more about the history of C&K.

We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations, nurture healthy minds and bodies, as children explore, experiment, play and learn.

Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

Your child's learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child's educators and through written documentation in your centre, and in some centres through StoryPark (an app and website).

"Jumping in muddy puddles? It's all in a day's work at Sherwood Community Kindy. The beautiful garden and playground (including the muddiest of mud patches!) provide hours of fun for everyone."

2023 Kindergarten Fees

The daily fee for eligible age children (children turning 4 by June 30 of the year attending kindy) is up to $46. Depending on your individual family’s circumstances you may be eligible for a subsidy under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Program to reduce your out-of-pocket expense.

If your family has a valid Health Care Card (HCC) or government concession card, identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or have Multiple births (triplets or more Kindy age children) a family can also have their fees reduced each term, by the QKFS Kindy plus subsidy. The subsidy is paid directly to the kindy to reduce the amount of out of pocket expenses of the family.

For more detail, please refer to our 2023 Statement of Fees (PDF).
