C&K Coolum Community Child Care has been part of the Coolum Community for the past 23 years, opening on the 30th May 1992.
It is a purpose built spacious 3 room service with the ability to open up rooms to allow them to join together and open the indoors to the outdoors play spaces. We provide care and education for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. This includes a Queensland Government Approved Kindergarten Program.
The centre is built around a central court yard which is accessible from the Pre-Kindy and Kindy rooms. This is a great space where children can come together as well as using it as a walkway between rooms. Children have access to this area throughout the day. It is where our two murals hang. One represents the Undumbi legend of the Kabi Kabi language grouping telling a story of the Coolum area, the 2nd mural represents the children of our community and their journey, their stories of living in the Coolum area, and their reflective connections to the animals, natural environment and the community. These Murals were gifted to us by the Artist Sam Jones. They take pride of place in the court yard.
Our Educators are experienced qualified early childhood professionals who have been long standing staff members at this service where the combined leadership style ensures all children and families are welcomed. The curriculum is play based learning guided by Building Waterfalls, EYLF and NQF. The service encourages an indoor / outdoor program with many natural play spaces for the children to engage in meaningful learning.
C&K Coolum provides nappies and food for children over 15 months.
No two days are the same at C&K Coolum. Our teaching team tailors each day’s learning, taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious and natural environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and we allocate plenty of time for outdoor play and discovery.
Community spirit is important to us at C&K Coolum. We foster strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us and taking the children on excursions out into the local community.
Birth to Three Approach
At C&K we are exploring new approaches for the educators that care for, and educate our youngest children at C&K childcare centres. The Birth to Three approach which we have developed is all about being in the moment with your child. Our philosophy for this age group is to “slow down” and allow children the time to learn and discover at their own pace. We are focused on spending one-on-one time with babies and toddlers and developing deep and trusting relationships with each individual child.
