Welcome

Welcome to C&K QUT Kelvin Grove.

Our centre is a 5 room, Long Day Care (LDC) service with a LDC funded kindergarten program.

The service provides care and education for families who attend and work at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), people who work in the city and Kelvin Grove and inner city residents. We have a very multicultural service, with many of our families from a cultural and linguistically diverse back ground. This diversity enriches our centre as we incorporate into the service the families and educators culture and language through experiences, displays, songs, pedagogical approaches to our educational practice and ways of doing.

We have strong links with QUT and Kelvin Grove (urban village) community. We have worked with the university on a number of projects including our art show and assisting trialling new and innovative technology developed for early childhood education by university departments. In previous art shows students have assisted us from the development of the art show to assisting of the night. We have a strong parent group who are very involved and supportive of our projects and fundraisers, and invest a lot of their own time for the overall benefit of our service.

We are very fortunate to have an outdoor space that allows us to explore, discover and provide opportunities for children to take safe risks.  We have recently been successful in our application for the gambling grant which has allowed us to improve and extend on our outdoor space for the children.

We feel very proud about our centre and being able to share the results of our strong and collaborative relationships with our community.

Child-Led Learning

No two days are the same at C&K QUT Kelvin Grove. Our teaching team tailor each day’s learning taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and time spent discovering the natural environment outdoors.

Community Spirit

Community spirit is important to us at C&K QUT Kelvin Grove. We foster our strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us.

Birth to Three Approach

At C&K we are exploring new approaches for the educators that care for and educate our littlest people at C&K childcare centres. The Birth to Three approach, which we have developed, is all about being in the moment with your child. Our philosophy for this age group is to “slow down” and to slow down some more to allow children the time to learn and discover at their own pace. We are focused on spending one-on-one time with babies and toddlers and developing deep and trusting relationships with each individual child.

C&K has developed a Infant and Toddler approach which informs the way we care for and educate our babies and toddlers. Our philosophy for this age is to “slow down” and be in the moment with your child as they learn and explore the world. We focus on developing a deep and trusting relationship with each child.

All C&K childcare centres feature the quality C&K kindergarten program. Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children who are turning 4 by June 30 in the year before they attend school. C&K’s kindy programs are guided by University qualified teachers and support children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, resilience and real-world knowledge and skills.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, learning is a collaborative process between teachers, children and parents. The physical indoor and outdoor environment also plays a part. At C&K we believe children are competent and capable learners, and approach our education program with this in mind.

The new Education Precinct at QUT with Sphere

We were very fortunate to be involved in the Spheres first focus on Early Childhood, with QUT using our service to take photographs to use on the touch screen in relation to quality education and impact on brain growth.

QUT has welcomed students this week to its new, state-of-the-art $94.4 million Education Precinct on the Kelvin Grove campus.

The Precinct provides contemporary flexible and technology-equipped teaching spaces, and its centrepiece is the Sphere -- a five-metre diameter LED globe suspended over two floors which is complemented by a 4.8 metre-wide interactive digital wall screen.

The Sphere and digital touchscreen will be learning and teaching tools, with a changing menu of innovative and interactive content.

The first Sphere program was developed by QUT teacher education and early childhood researchers in collaboration with QUT’s Visualisation and eResearch (ViseR) team.

It demonstrates the importance of the early years in brain development and how everyday activities, play, games and reading fire activity in a child’s brain.

NEW in 2020 We have an all-inclusive daily service fee which will include nutritious meals prepared and delivered daily fresh from an C&K in-house qualified chef.
