C&K Carindale Community Kindergarten has been named the Queensland winner of the 2026 Little Scientists Early STEM Education Award.
The national awards celebrate excellence in STEM education in the early years, with projects judged on their ability to foster children’s curiosity, inquiry and problem-solving.
C&K Carindale Community Kindergarten was recognised for its project, which began with finding “treasures” such as rocks in the playground, before developing into an investigation of bugs, lizards and the natural world.
C&K Carindale Director and Teacher, Morgan Bushell, said the project demonstrated how children’s interests can create opportunities for deeper learning.
“STEM is really about giving children the tools to follow their curiosity,” Morgan said.
“When we follow what children are interested in, children can start with an idea, learn how to research and find out more.
“Their learning doesn’t have to stop at the wondering.”
As part of the project, children at C&K Carindale took photos and used smart screens and reverse image searches to identify and learn more about bugs and insects.
The project also created opportunities for the children to learn about and acknowledge Country through investigating their natural environment.
C&K Acting CEO, Vaughan Reed, said the award was a wonderful recognition of the Carindale team’s teaching practice.
“This award reflects the high quality of teaching at C&K Carindale and the team’s commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences for children.”
