Government-funded Training

To be eligible you must:

• be aged 15 or older and not be a school student

• permanently reside in Queensland

• be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrant), New Zealand citizen, or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency

• not currently be enrolled in another DTET funded qualification 

• not have completed a Certificate III or higher qualification in the last 10 years with the exception of:

  • qualification completed as a school student

  • Foundation Skills Qualification

  • Qualifications funded by the Department under Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) Program

• not have exceeded two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships in the last 10 years.

To be eligible you must:

• be aged 15 or older and not be a school student

• permanently reside in Queensland

• be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrant), New Zealand citizen, or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency

• not already have a Certificate IV or higher qualification (including a university qualification) completed in the last 10 years (qualifications started as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications, don’t count)

• not be enrolled in any other qualification, funded or not, except foundation skills.

To be eligible you must:

• be employed as a Queensland trainee or apprentice under a registered training contract in the qualification

• not currently be enrolled in another qualification

• for the Diploma apprenticeship, not already have a Certificate IV or higher qualification completed in the last 10 years

• not have exceeded two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships in the last 10 years, including school-based.

• Not be a school student

Your traineeship or apprenticeship is free if you:

• are under 25 when you sign your training contract

• are employed as a Queensland trainee or apprentice under a registered training contract in an eligible qualification (both the Certificate III and the Diploma are eligible)

• are no longer at school

• commence or recommence between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2027

• are not currently enrolled in another qualification; and

• have not exceeded two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships in the last 10 years.

• Each person can access one funded place under Career Start and one under Career Boost. When you enrol in a funded place, you use that entitlement.

• You can be funded for a maximum of two apprenticeships or traineeships in a 10-year period, and only one at a time. School-based traineeships count towards this limit.

• Career Start and Career Boost run until 30 June 2028. Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s is available for commencements until 30 June 2027.
