C&K East Street Kindy in Hervey Bay has been part of our local community and its history since 1967, both engaging and guiding young children to become independent and confident whilst playing and having fun. C&K East St Kindy is a community organisation caring for children 3½ to 5 years of age. Our Kindy is a not for profit service with all money returned to the Kindy and used to benefit the children, and the program.
We aim to provide a friendly, secure atmosphere in which children are valued and encouraged to develop independence, self-discipline and self-esteem. The early years of a child’s life are recognised as vital years in development, and positive experiences at Kindergarten will give children a head start for future learning. Many of our previous children return later as parents themselves wanting their own children to experience the same level of values and trusted care.
At C&K East Street Kindy, we have two kindy groups to choose from. All groups ensure children receive the same number of hours of education across the year. The groups have a maximum of 22 children and are led by an experienced and qualified early childhood teacher. We operate during QLD school terms and are closed for school holidays, public holidays and some pupil free days.
As an affiliated centre of C&K, C&K East Street Kindy receives support from C&K as the Central Governing Body but operates as an independent incorporated association managed by a volunteer management committee. Centres affiliated with C&K receive comprehensive support in governance, including managing kindergarten and inclusion funding, training for committees and educators, advice and support regarding inclusion, use of the C&K brand, curriculum approach and resource materials.

At C&K East Street Kindy learning through play is an integal part of our program. Educators are guided by the children’s interests, strengths and emerging skills. We are responsive and receptive to their family context and to all they bring with them. We know that children learn best when they have a sense of belonging and are interested in what they are exploring.
Our natural, homely environment supports children’s developing skills, together with educators who are engaged, flexible and skilled in scaffolding children’s learning alongside strong relationships. We particularly embrace play, nature, community connections, the arts, and social/emotional learning, embedding literacy, numeracy, imagination, creativity and technology within the curriculum in meaningful and authentic ways.
Research consistently shows that parental involvement maximises the effectiveness of early childhood programs. After the beginning of the year, when the children have settled comfortably into the program, parents are welcome to share time at the centre to gain a deeper understanding of the learning environment. Parents are welcome to visit, help with activities, spend time with their child, or just come for a play!
Queensland Kindergarten Funding: The Queensland Government provides funding for eligible-aged children (children turning 4 by 30 June, in the year they attend a kindy program) attending a centre delivering a government-approved kindergarten program. This funding allows your eligible-aged child to attend kindergarten for free.
Non-eligible-aged Children: Enrolment priority is given to eligible-age children, but if there are places available, we welcome 3-year-old children to enrol and attend for two years. The Queensland Kindergarten Funding does not apply for 3-year-old children, and the non-eligible kindy daily fee will apply. Please contact us for more information on fees for 3-year-old children and to discuss your family's situation.
