About our kindy

Welcome to C&K Weir Community Kindergarten, where your child will feel safe, make friends and belong. C&K Weir has beautiful, large landscaped gardens and inspiring indoor learning environments. Our teachers and educators focus on nurturing your child's curiosity, building their resilience and developing their confidence - all through the joy of learning through play.

Accredited Forest and Bush Kindergarten

We're proudly accredited with Nature Play QLD, one of only 16 in Queensland for our nature program.

Our centre prides itself on bringing nature into both the indoor and outdoor spaces which include an abundance of native flora and fauna. We have a strong focus on providing loose and recyclable parts within our learning spaces and places. Our flexible program provides opportunities for children to move between the indoor and outdoor environments throughout their day.

Our regular “Beyond the Fence” excursions strengthen our commitment to both conservation and sustainability with a focus on discovering, understanding and protecting our world. At C&K Weir we believe that “If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.” - David Sobel.

Location

C&K Weir on Ross River Road in Kirwan, Townsville, on the grounds of Weir State School.

Child-led learning

No two days are the same at C&K Weir. Our teaching team tailors each day’s learning, taking into account the interests of the children in the group. The spacious and natural environment at our kindy is thoughtfully planned and well resourced. There is a focus on music, drama, literature and visual arts and we allocate plenty of time for outdoor play and discovery.

Community spirit

Community spirit is important to us at C&K Weir. We foster strong ties to the local community by encouraging parent involvement in the daily operations of the kindergarten. We often hold and partake in community events and love connecting with local businesses and groups around us and taking the children on excursions out into the local community.

All our kindergartens deliver C&K Quality Kindergarten Program. Kindergarten, also known as pre-prep or preschool, is a program for children who are turning 4 by June 30 in the year before they attend school. C&K’s kindy programs are government-approved and led by experienced and university qualified teachers. Our program supports children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, resilience and real-world knowledge and skills.

At C&K we know that children do not learn in isolation, so we approach learning as a collaborative relationship between teachers, eaducators, children and families. At C&K we believe children are powerful learners, active citizens, thinkers and theorisers - this is at the heart of our early childhood curriculum. We've designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations and nurture healthy minds and bodies. Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skilfully enrich and extend on children's play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.

C&K's Kindergartens with Extended Hours offer continued learning after the core program ends for the day. The extended hours program is led by a diploma-qualified educator and supported by an assistant educator. There is a half-hour overlap between the core kindergarten program lead educator and the extended program lead educator each day. Educators will share highlights and continuing plans for the day.

Your child’s learning journey is shared with you via  conversations with your child’s educators, through written documentation and through StoryPark (an app and website).
